Opening up the infamous Crankworx festival, our EWS racers from Team Lapierre Gravity Republic descended on the Whistler mountain village for a World Enduro round that never disappoints.
Sadly the team are still a man down as Nico Vouilloz recovers from illness that has seen him unable to compete. It would again be all down to Rae Morrison and Adrien Dailly to fly the flag for Team Lapierre and SixSixOne on the World Enduro stage.
Early in the week the riders got to walk and practise the stages in anticipation of race day. The exciting announcement that the riders would once again be tackling the "top of the world" trail at the uppermost part of Whistler blackbomb meant that riders would be looking at hefty final stage with an average time of over 20 minutes for the fastest racers
The race week in Whistler all comes down to one big day on in the mountains. a 70km loop with 5 special stages set to challenge the best in the world... With scorching temperatures it was sure to be a tough day.
Race day for Rae Morrison who looked strong and fast on the first 2 stages but suffered a mechanical on stage three then a serious crash on stage 5 put her out of the race and straight to hospital with a suspected broken heel.
Rae had this to say on Social Media just after the race'
"What an eventful day. Had a blast on stage 1 & 2, felt really good. Then came up short on a step up on stage 3, broke my chain and chairing so ran the stage lost all my time for a good placing. The awesome guys at SRAM put my bike back together so I could continue the race. Happy to still be racing and having fun. Then got lost on the transition to stage 4 but still managed to make my start. Had fun on stage 4 and the top of stage 5..then my pedal broke/ fell off on landing a jump so instead I landed on my foot and broke my heel in at least 2 places. Oh la la what a day." Heal up fast Rae!! Sending get well vibes!
Fortunately it was a solid day at work for U21 star Adrien Dailly. Looking fast and confident Adrien took the first 2 stage wins but was pushed hard by rival Sebastien Claquin all day. Sebastien took a narrow lead over stage 3 & 4 but Adrien showed great fitness and composure to battle all the way down the long stage 5 to take yet another EWS round win! We are stoked for you Adrien!!
