Set in the high mountains of the Swiss Alps, the fifth round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup arrived at Lenzerheide after a brief break. With many of the teams and riders choosing to attend the Crankworx Les Gets festival, Lenzerheide marked a brief end to many a european road trip.
Junior rider Finn Iles has spent the past few weeks riding and shooting in Morzine, France while team mate Loris Vergier chose to travel back home to the south of France to rest and train on his local trails.
Still out of action, World Champion Loic Bruni was in Switzerland to cheer on his team mates and acclimatise to the racing action after a month of rehab from a broken collarbone.
With Saturday being race day, all riders got into town early to hit the track walking on Tuesday. With Loic on hand for line choices it would be all down to Loris and Finn come race day.
The Lenzerheide track appeared straight forward in its nature, however after a single day of practise the track showed signs of wear with the previous combination of opening corners becoming blown out and rough.
Finn took his Specialized machine to the top spot in Junior qualification showing he has the consistency to back up his results. While Loris had a massive "get off" during the morning before qualifications over jumping one of the large step-up jumps and hitting the dust. Thankfully no serious injury for Loris who went onto qualify 35th.
Finals day was always set to be nail biting... An amazing ride from Finn saw him take another Win - Amazing for a first year junior. Whilst Loris had some issues in his race run, hitting a crash pad and loosing time on a track that demanded precision. Still - fantastic result for Specialized Gravity with both riders keeping their overall position and looking ahed of Mont Sainte Anne and the return of Loic Bruni.
Onwards... to the final round in Canada, then Andorra for the World Champs!
